A few days ago my dad called to tell me about something ridiculous he had just witnessed on the local news. He was watching the mayor of Boston, Tom Menino, announce the unveiling of a statue of Bobby Orr, commemorating his game winning goal in the 1970's Stanley Cup Finals. Tom decided to recollect on a few "ionic" moments in Boston sports history. I'm no genius, and I've never been on Stump the Schwab, but I'm pretty sure Jason Varitek never kicked any game winning field goals for the New England Patriots. I wonder if Tom has ever read a local newspaper, turned on ESPN, or walked across the street to witness a Red Sox game? It is totally possible that the mayor is a big sports fan and just happened to mix up his words, but either way it still makes me laugh.

  1. Why does everybody think they need to give Varitek career advice? Now the Mayor? He's a good catcher, leave him alone. :)

  2. If you wanna get abstract and consider the right and left field foul polls "goal posts", then sure, that makes sense. So does that mean that Vinatieri kicked one off the Pesky poll to win the Superbowl?

  3. "Mumbles" Menino strikes did this guy get elected? I wish Curt Schilling would run...he has to know more than this jibroni
