Hey guys! This is Matt Antonelli of the San Diego Padres. I've created this blog to help stay connected with many of my family, friends, and fans, and keep everyone up to date with my career. If you have any questions or ideas to help make my blog better don't hesistate to let me know.
Here is a little background information about myself for all of you that don't know. I grew up and currently live in Peabody Massachusetts, a city of just over 50,000 people about fifteen miles north of Boston. I went to high school at St. John's Prep, a Catholic school home to about 1200 students, where I played four seasons of football, hockey, and baseball. After completing my junior year of high school I took unofficial visits to Georgia Tech and The University of Virginia, and official visits to The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Wake Forest University. I decided to attend and play college baseball for Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina from 2004-2006. After my junior season I entered the 2006 Major League Draft and was selected by the San Diego Padres in the 1st Round (17th overall). I have spent the past three seasons working my way through the minor league system. I have made stops along the way in Eugene, Oregon, Fort Wayne, Indiana, Lake Elsinore, California, San Antonio, Texas, and Portland Oregon. On September 1st, 2008 I was fortunate enough to make my Major League debut at 2nd base against the Los Angeles Dodgers, a day I definitely will never forget. I am currently playing my second season for the Portland Beavers of the Pacfic Coast League (AAA). I am continuously trying to improve my game in hopes of receiving another shot in San Diego.
I plan on keeping everyone up to date with how the season is going and everything else that is going on in my life, so feel free to check in!
